Fall Clean Up Days Report
We had a wonderful, committed, hard-working group of parents show up in force this past weekend to help with campus improvements. It was an awesome and very productive weekend, with work sessions Saturday morning 9-12 and Sunday afternoon 1-4. The heavy rain held off! Ms. K. came both days with her camera to help document this great Kingsley community event.
We had over 40 parent and staff attend. Several parents worked both days (Liz Handlee, Dorothea Bothers (Kenneth Simmons) and Libra Paredes). We also had over 40 kids attend and we put most of them to work.
Special thanks to the following for their generous donations of time, materials, and/or equipment:
Scott Posvar - paid and arranged for delivery of 30 bales of pine straw
Kevin Wyzykowski - brought backhoe and workers to move remaining dirt piles from previous work day and also remove remaining holly bushes in front. The backhoe can do in one hour what would have taken about 6-8 man hours.
Keith Rothchild - donated a wheelbarrow to the school (our first one, much needed and will be used frequently- yeah!!)
Lowes/Home Depot - Both stores gave us great deals on paint and pine straw
Girl Scout Troop 28411 - got paint for and started re-painting the states map (then got caught by the rain)
Tom Lambert - for moving some large bushes out of sight (Sunday evening, in the rain)
Michele Richards - Ran several errands to purchase water, snacks, paint, and additional pine straw
Liz Handlee - the last one to leave both work days, helped clean up, manage projects and run errands with Michele
Mr. Dingh - for opening up the gym and storage closets for us. It was great to have access to these spaces both days.
Chick-fil-A/Carol Pajer - Carol got enough free sandwich coupons for every volunteer to get one. These are always a big hit!!
We completed most of the tasks on our wish list and a few not on the list. We had enough parent help and materials to add the project of cleaning up from and temporarily reducing the amount of erosion impacting the sidewalk from the carpool lane. We were anxious to fix this problem and have everything in the front looking its best for our distinguished guests from the state who arrived Monday morning to visit our Pre-K classroom and tour the school. In attendance were First Lady Sandra Deal, GA Pre-K Director Bobby Cagle, and Senator Fran Millar. We all took great pride in working to improve our campus. A BIG THANK YOU to our incredible Kingsley volunteers!!!
Thank you,
Kingsley School Master Gardener
