Your Weekly Kingsley eNews

THIS WEEK AT KINGSLEY

Night of the arts - TOMORROW at 6:00 pm
This year, we will again exhibit students' framed artwork in the media center as part of Kingsley's Night of the Arts visual art and choral festivities. The frames by Artome are available for purchase for $25.00 ($20.00 for each additional frame). Only cash or checks will be accepted. Frame sales will not be available after the art show. If parents would like to purchase frames with their child's artwork but are unable to attend Night of the Arts, they can send in payment to Mrs. Agee before the show, and she will hold your framed work for you. Please email Mrs. Agee if you plan to do this. The students have been working very hard to prepare artwork for the hall and media center galleries. Hope to see you there.

Volunteers still needed:
We need help getting the children's art hung before Thursday evening for Night of the Arts.  Any amount of time you can offer to help would be great.  Just stop by the school and see Ms. Agee.  If she's not there or not available, she will provide art and instructions in the front office.

COMING UP AT KINGSLEY

Kingsley Spring Cleanup weekend - Please save the date for a big cleanup weekend at Kingsley April 21/22.

We plan to have a work session both of those days to accommodate as many families as possible - Sat. 9-1 and Sun 1-5.  Please mark your calendars and plan to attend one of our cleanup sessions.  We have several areas around campus where we need to spread mulch and there's always pruning and weeding to do
J.  We will also be working on the beds in the front.  We want the school looking its best for Kindergarten Roundup on 4/27.  Contact Amanda Hensley at bahensley@bellsouth.net with any questions or suggestions.

Congratulations to Kingsley’s Odyssey of the Mind team!
Our Odyssey of the Mind team finished in 9th place in their division in the recent Lilburn Regional Tournament. This caps another great season of creative problem solving, where the students get all the credit because they do it all. They wrote the script. They designed the sets and created the costumes. And along the way, they made new friends and shared a lot of laughs. Now, Kingsley’s creative problem solving program is ready to grow. For 2012-13, we are moving our team to Destination ImagiNation, which will give us new opportunities to learn and compete. We also hope to add a second team for kids in grades K-2. But to grow, we need more help from the Kingsley community. Specifically, we need a few more parent volunteers to manage our teams. If you can spend 1-2 hours a week with a group of seven students, you can be a team manager … and when you commit to managing a team, your child (or children) will be guaranteed a place on one of our school’s teams.

fIELD dAY IS JUST AROUND THE BEND
Imagine it ... a beautiful, sunny day ... kids running, jumping and playing together ... sounds of fun and joy are all you hear.  That's Field Day!  For this to happen though, Coach Thomas needs help from a parent to coordinate the other volunteers. If you are interested in helping with this amazingly kid-favorite event, please let the Council know by sending an email to council@kingsleycharter.org.

PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED...

NOMINATE YOUR TEACHER AS AN A+ TEACHER!
The Downtown Disney Resort Area Hotels has partnered with Walt Disney World to honor outstanding K-12 teachers with its 2012 A+ For Teachers at Downtown Disney essay contest. The fourth annual contest, which runs through April 13, 2012, asks students in grades 1 through 12 to nominate their favorite teacher by writing a brief essay of no more than 300 words and submitting it via email to www.downtowndisneyhotels.com.  The essay should explain how the teacher has made a difference in the student's life and will be judged on its relevance to theme, creativity, originality, and the merit of the teacher's accomplishments as outlined in the essay.  The A+ For Teachers at Downtown Disney contest winners will be notified directly by May 1, 2012.  Please see the attached document for complete details.

Kingsley's Brownie Troops are Trying to Make a Difference, but They Need Your Help!
  • 2nd Grade Brownie Troop is Collecting Supplies for Orphaned Children and Animals
Troop 10557 has committed to support
Noah’s Ark, a charity devoted to providing a loving home to abused, unwanted and orphaned children and animals. Their purpose is to bring children and animals together to provide unconditional love, service and a future full of hope. Already, the troop has raised more than $300 to donate, but they would like to do more. Please consider helping them in this effort by donating animal food and supplies. The troop will be collecting donations in a bin outside the front office from March 8 through April 12 and will deliver all donations when they visit Noah's Ark in mid-April.  Download letter from these girl scouts with list of donation items included>>
Attention Rising PCMS 6th Grade Parents

Please note:  Because PCMS is a charter school, parents are required to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours per year.  This is a rewarding way to earn those hours!

The Peachtree Charter Middle School Peer Proofing Committee is looking for new parent volunteers for the 2012-13 school year.  Peer Proofing is a interactive two day program facilitated by PCMS parent volunteers during health class, for all 6, 7 and 8 graders.  Special character building videos by Connect With Kids encourage candid classroom conversations that help the students understand and manage peer issues such as bullying, stress and anxiety, drug awareness, etc.

Requirements:
* Available during the school day for 2 days each quarter
* Comfortable facilitating a classroom of middle school kids
* Desire to connect with and mentor middle school kids

If you are interested in becoming part of the Peer Proofing team, we invite you to observe the final Peer Proofing session for this school year.
Date:  April 18 and April 19
For more information or to visit our next session, please contact: Shari Clark   shariwclark@gmail.com   or    Elizabeth Herrington   elizherrington@gmail.com
